Nitrox for Free to certified divers.
More and more divers are realising the immense benefits Nitrox gives them and choose, whenever possible, to dive with Enriched Air Nitrox over standard air. If you are one of these divers, then you will be pleased to know that Coral Sub offers all our certified customers the choice of Nitrox for every dive, FREE of charge. If you are not yet certified, our instructors are runnning Nitrox courses every day (see below)
Coral Sub owns one of the only 2 membrane Nitrox compressors in Tenerife. Membrane compressors produce Nitrox by removing Nitrogen from normal air to increase the Oxygen percentage. Although expensive to install, they have the advantage over "Partial Pressure" filling stations, as pure oxygen is not used, making day to day operating safer, easier and cheaper. Partial Pressure filling involves blending pure oxygen with air.
Nitrox Speciality Diver Taining
As you would expect from a PADI 5 Star Dive Centre, our Nitrox courses will give you first class and thorough training in all aspects of Nitrox, and is split into 3 sections; self study with DVD and manual; classroom theory training with an instructor; 2 Open Water dives to enable practical dive planning on Nitrox. The whole course can be completed over 2 days. Before enroling, you must be at least 15 years of age and be a certified PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent (the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox certification is recognised by all international diver training agencies and dive centres). The price of the course includes all diving and classroom sessions, plus a personal copy of the manual, the DVD and all the dive planning tables. We feel it is important that each student has these materials to refresh their knowledge after the course.
So what is Nitrox... why all the fuss?

As you will (hopefully) remember from you Open Water Course, air consists of approximately 79% Nitrogen and 21% Oxygen. Oxygen metabolises with our bodies and is effectively absorbed in to our body tissue. However Nitrogen is completely inert and during SCUBA diving, the increased pressure causes the Nitrogen to build up inside body tissues. On return to normal pressure this Nitrogen needs to be released gently by respiring out through our lungs, but not by forming bubbles in our blood and other
tissues. This is what causes Decompression Sickness" and is why we learned to use
Diving Tables and computers to avoid excessive exposure to Nitrogen. Nitrox, very simply, is a gas with reduced Nitrogen content and an increased Oxygen content, so when SCUBA Diving, the diver will absorb much less Nitrogen, allowing for longer dive times and shorter surface intervals. The benefits are
clear... more time under the water and much safer. However, like all good thing in life, there are some drawbacks too. Nitrox is not a gas for deep diving; its use is for extended time underwater only. High percentages of oxygen under pressure can be very toxic to the human body, so it is very important that the student has a clear understanding of dive planning. For example the maximum allowable depth with Nitrox 40% is 25 meters but Nitrox 28% allows for 40 meters. As the consequences of mis-using Nitrox
are very severe, it is very important that the student receives thorough training and is one of the reasons why each student receives a personal copy of the training DVD, manual and tables.
